Solar Dynamics Observatory

Todays launch of the Solar Dynamics Observatory was breathtaking and successful.  At a geosynchronous orbit of about 23000 feet it will point itself toward the sun and begin sending information back to the NM station.

“The research is expected to reveal the sun’s inner workings by constantly taking high resolution images of the sun, collecting readings from inside the sun and measuring its magnetic field activity.” NASA

These events never cease to amaze me.
