These warm clear summer nights are a great time to get out and do some observing. This line up of planets is worth a look.

This unusually warm weather finds me daring to go out in the evening to gaze upwards, though I now must be aware of possible bear company. I was able to view lovely Venus & her companion Mercury who is usually much more shy. With only a couple of minutes before they sank below my tree line it was a short but memorable naked eye sight. As one who has been contemplating the purchase of my dream telescope for three years such moments push me closer to taking the plunge.
This time in Astronomy is producing so many new and exciting scope choices I find it sort of like trying to choose a new mobile phone, pc, notebook, camera, knowing the next best may be just a few months away. I have browsed several forums and blogs, read terrific articles and reviews & browsed catalogs galore hoping the suggestions there would provide me with my ah ha “this is the one” moment but still I procrastinate.
My 10 yr. old grandson is coming for a visit this summer & I really want to be able to show him the rings around Saturn so………. I guess its time to get serious with myself & make this an earnest assignment.
